1. Tottenham have to win

Spurs will enter the match ten points behind Chelsea in the Premier League table. If they have any hope at all of remaining relevant in the title race, they’ll need to close the gap to seven points with an important home victory.

Quite simply, the need to survive in the title race for Spurs is going to trump Chelsea’s desire to make history. The Blues want the match, Tottenham need the win. That’s an important distinction to consider.

More from Tottenham Hotspur

A Chelsea win at White Hart Lane would all but eliminate Spurs from the title race. Sure, they might close the gap here and there, but it would require a Chelsea collapse to catch them. Pochettino’s squad will be desperate to avoid that reality.

As such, the North London club will do everything within their power to stop Chelsea from running away with the league. Human nature dictates that humans fight hardest when their survival is threatened. That’s just what Tottenham are faced with today. Spurs will win to keep their Premier League title dreams alive.
