Mike Dean issues a yellow card to Ross Barkley for a dangerous tackle on Jordan Henderson

Mike Dean certainly has no problem issuing red cards. However, he may need a refresher course on the difference between red and yellow.

Dean was officiating the Merseyside derby last month when Everton midfielder Ross Barkley came flying in with a heavy challenge on Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson.

The studs up tackle caught Henderson on the ankle and resulted in a delay as the player remained down for some time.

While it was apparent that Barkley intended no harm on Henderson, it was a reckless tackle that could have easily caused severe damage.

The always unpredictable Dean approached Barkley and pulled a card out of his pocket. Instead of sending the player off, Dean issued a yellow card.

Speaking to reporters after the match Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said, “I saw it was a really hard, harsh challenge. You saw it all. I don’t need to say anything about this. He [Barkley] was lucky – and Hendo was lucky that nothing else happened.”
