Back Tottenham to turn a profit on Moussa Sissoko

It’s plain to see that things aren’t working out for Moussa Sissoko at Tottenham. Some Spurs fans wanted to see the Frenchman jettisoned in January, but he’ll remain with the squad for the rest of the season. This summer is an entirely different matter.

Expect for Mauricio Pochettino to sanction Sissoko’s departure once the summer transfer window opens. I know what many Spurs fans reading this are thinking. How can we get rid of Sissoko during the summer given Daniel Levy’s refusal to accept a loss on any player?

The answer to the question is pretty simple. Bet on Sissoko becoming a proud member of the Chinese Super League this summer. He really fits the league’s profile perfectly. He’s a supremely talented player who doesn’t feel the burning desire to test himself against elite competition.

Sissoko really isn’t that different from players like Hulk, Oscar and Gervinho that have already made the switch. They’re able to coast in semi-retirement in front of large crowds in China. More importantly, clubs in the east Asian league are happy to offer players of Sissoko’s ilk massive wages.

Chinese Super League clubs are also willing to pay large transfer fees to tempt Premier League clubs into parting with their players. Chelsea received a transfer fee in excess of £50 million for Oscar. Spurs will be happy to part with Sissoko for a much more modest fee.

Levy and company will only require a Chinese side to match the reported £30 million they paid Newcastle to sign Sissoko on Deadline Day. The minute Tottenham receive a bid that will allow them to part with Sissoko without losing money, they’ll rush to pack his bags for him.

It’s a shame that Sissoko won’t fulfill his serious potential for Tottenham. In many ways, Pochettino was the best sort of manager to help him produce his top form. If he could just adopt the Spurs’ gaffer’s passionate philosophy, there’s no telling the terror he could become for Premier League opponents.

Unfortunately, Sissoko just doesn’t have the mental approach to the game that Pochettino requires. That’s why Tottenham will jettison him to China this summer. It’s the best financial outcome for everyone involved.
