Tottenham want to sign one of Real Madrid’s stars

It’s safe to say that Tottenham are sick and tired of selling their stars to Real Madrid. Instead, Mauricio Pochettino wants to bring on of Los Blancos’ promising players to North London this summer. While rumours swirl about Spurs’ interest in Isco, the club are quietly plotting a move for Mateo Kovacic.

The Spanish midfielder has played relatively well in Real’s midfield, but he hasn’t earned as much playing time as he’d like. As a result, the Spanish giants are contemplating selling him this summer. The Mirror report that Kovacic doesn’t necessarily want to leave, but he may reluctantly to look elsewhere for increased playing time.

If the decision is made to sell Kovacic, expect Spurs to rush forward with a significant bid. Pochettino is still looking to add an attacking midfielder this summer, and Kovacic would be a perfect fit. The 22-year-old Croatian could be the missing link for Tottenham’s attack.

Ironically, it was countryman Luka Modric that began the “special relationship” between Tottenham and Real Madrid. It began with Modric, but reached its crescendo as Spurs sold Gareth Bale to the La Liga giants. Various rumours have connected Real Madrid with Dele Alli over the last few months as well.

More from Tottenham Hotspur

You can’t blame Spurs for wanting to reverse this troubling trend. WIth Pochettino in charge, the club now have a manager who can lead them to the top of the Premier League. Spurs can’t achieve those goals if they’re forced to sell off their best players. A concerted effort has been made to retain the club’s talented young core.

Purchasing Kovacic would be good for Tottenham both on the pitch and in terms of their reputation. Acquiring such a talented young player from Real Madrid would send a signal of real intent to clubs all across Europe. Kovacic would serve as a physical example of how times have changed for Tottenham.

Spurs don’t want to be perceived as a selling club any longer. They also need one more attacking midfielder to make their attack really hum. Purchasing Mateo Kovacic from Real Madrid would allow them to club both objectives with one transaction.
