4. He’s just 23-years-old

It’s easy to forget just how young Ross Barkley is. He broke onto the Premier League scene at a very young age. Even though he’s been a regular starter at Everton since 2013, his age means there’s still plenty of career growth ahead of him.

More from Tottenham Hotspur

Assuming he’s a finished product just doesn’t make any real sense. He has plenty to learn about football. Mauricio Pochettino may be the best manager in the world to get the most out of the prodigious talent.

Barkley happens to be the same age as Harry Kane. I suspect most Tottenham fans believe the star striker has plenty of development ahead of him. Why then shouldn’t Barkley get the same benefit of the doubt?

If Barkley were already 27 or 28 years of age I’d understand all of the consternation about bringing him to Spurs. That isn’t the case though. He must be evaluated as the young player he truly is.
