Chelsea FC rumors: Marco Verratti continues to be linked with the Blues every other day it seems but for me, it makes no sense.

Every day I go on the internet looking for any Chelsea FC rumors and there seems to be a common theme emerging. Chelsea either really want Verratti or the media just like to write about it as it gets them hits on their website.

But now The Guardian and The Sun are reporting that Chelsea have bid £55m for the Italian maestro.

Now, there’s no argument from me that Verratti is a good player. In fact he’s probably one of the best midfielders in the world right now at the tender age of 24-years-old. He’s better than Paul Pogba in my opinion and he’d make any team world-class.

His stats are phenomenal and while I don’t get to watch the French Ligue 1 very much, from what I have seen of him in the Champions League and when he has played against Chelsea it’s obvious what a talent he is.

He’s made 5 assists, made 3.1 tackles per game, has an average of 88.4 per cent successful passes and 4.5 long passes per game (Whoscored).

However, I really can’t see him fitting in at Chelsea. He’d partner alongside the global phenomenon known as “N’Golo Kante” which on paper would scare any team in the world including Barcelona.

But, there’s one problem. And it’s probably been a problem that’s made Verratti an even better player to spite that one problem- his height. He’s only around five foot five inches tall or 165 cm. Verratti has probably had to battle that weakness all of his life against coaches who thought he was too small and it’s true that adversity can often help people to become better,

But when you plant him alongside another small guy in N’Golo Kante who is also 5 foot five inches tall, then you have a problem.

Chelsea would have the smallest midfield in the world and although both players are top class, I feel that opponents would physically bully them.

At the moment the balance is right-if not a little weird. You have a guy who’s five ft 5 alongside the Serbian giant Nemanja Matic who’s 6 ft 4.

Matic is often tasked to man-mark bigger opponents such as Paul Pogba or Victor Wanyama while N’Golo Kante just does his thing running around for miles.

While I think Chelsea could use another player to compete or replace Nemanja Matic, I don’t think Verratti is the answer, To have a complete and balanced midfield you need at least one big guy and a smaller guy who’s more technical and agile.

Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko would be one good option or Roma’s Radja Nainggolan.

But Verratti is not a good fit for Chelsea despite his talent and his old connection with Antonio Conte playing for Italy.
