Tottenham are targeting another Vincent Janssen style transfer- This one would be great for Spurs
Tottenham are going back to Eredivisie for a new striker
Just because last summer’s acquisition of Vincent Janssen didn’t work out perfectly doesn’t mean Spurs shouldn’t try again. Mauricio Pochettino and company are taking a hard look at a new Eredivisie striker to add to the senior squad this summer.
This time, the target of the club’s affections is Ajax striker Kasper Dolberg. He’s a huge reason why the Dutch squad find themselves in the Europa League final. Dolberg has poured in six goals and added one assist in his 12 Europa League appearances for Ajax.
Predictably, Dolberg has been even more prolific in the league. He scored 15 goals in 23 Eredivisie appearances to help Ajax finish second in the league. Clearly, he’s got a keen eye for goal.
That’s why reports are linking him with a possible move to the Premier League this summer. Tottenham are believed to be the most interested club. Remember, Spurs have made quite a habit of bringing Ajax talent to England. Jan Vertonghen and Christian Eriksen both made high-profile switches from one club to the other. Toby Alderweireld also has Ajax roots although his path to Tottenham was a bit more circuitous.

The natural concern for Spurs fans here is whether or not Dolberg would simply be another Vincent Janssen. With all due respect to the club’s current Dutch striker, things haven’t worked out for him in the Premier League as of yet. He’ll likely to get another season to prove his worth, but so far he’s been a massive disappointment.
There are significant reasons to be more optimistic about Dolberg’s ability to positively impact the club. Most importantly, he’s just 19-years-old. Pochettino would have the opportunity to bring him in and mold him into the player he desires. Janssen was just a few years older, but that meant many of his playing habits had already been cemented.
There’s also the reality that Dolberg has already proven to be an effective Europa League goal scorer at a young age. Even if you’re not inclined to value his Eredivisie efforts, you have to be impressed with what he’s done in Europe. He was particularly good against Lyon in the semifinals of the competition.

Add all of it up and it’s clear that Dolberg is a much different player than Janssen. Tottenham should do whatever they can to bring him to England this summer. It may take him a bit of time to adjust to life in the Premier League, but he could grow into an excellent backup for Harry Kane.
