Number 1: Emre Can v Watford

In a slow, boring game at Vicarage Road that Liverpool had to win Emre Can lit it up with a moment of sublime brilliance. He meets the regulation ball forward with a perfectly executed bicycle kick. The mid-air spectacular strike nestles in the top corner of the Watford to give Liverpool three precious points:

The bicycle kick is the hardest technique to execute. It takes physical agility, flawless technique and perfect timing. As well as technical traits it requires fearlessness and huge self-confidence. Anyone who has every tried and failed one of these knows what I mean. The sensible thing is to bring down on the chest. The sensible thing is trap the ball and tee up a shot. Emre Can is not sensible. He is glorious. Watch it again. Glorious.

This is not just Liverpool’s goal of the season it is the goal of every team’s season. Forget Giroud sticking a foot out behind his back. I can do that. What I can’t do is execute a perfect bicycle kick in one fluid motion into the top corner. Neither can you. This goal is special. Can you imagine the Twitter meltdown if Pogba had scored this? The superlatives would still be flowing today.

This is a wonderful goal and a worthy winner of Liverpool Top Goal of the season!
