Tottenham gaining momentum with versatile attacking starlet
An Argentine attacker could be headed to Tottenham
Tottenham have been linked with a litany of attacking targets already this summer. Fortunately, it seems that Mauricio Pochettino is growing closer and closer to bringing in one of his top targets. The Argentine gaffer is keen to bring countryman Sebastian Driussi to North London this summer.
Reports from France (via Football London) claim that Marseille have seen a £11 million bid for the talented attacker rebuffed by River Plate. News of that bid has forced Tottenham into action. The report claims that River Plate are expecting a bid from the North London club soon.
To win the battle for Driussi, Spurs will need to defeat both Marseille and Roma. The Premier League club certainly have the financial resources to do so. For Pochettino, it’s a question of whether or not Driussi is the right summer addition to his emerging squad.
The answer to that question is almost certainly yes. Driussi shouldn’t be viewed as any sort of savior at Tottenham, but Spurs aren’t in need of one either. What he can be, is an excellent complementary piece to an already impressive attack.
The 21-year-old star played most of his matches for River Plate as a central striker, but he also flashed the ability to play out on the left flank as well. In short, Driussi could provide Pochettino cover at two attacking positions.

His acquisition would allow Spurs to hedge their bet on Vincent Janssen. He could easily stay at the club and receive another chance to earn his place as Harry Kane’s backup. It would also give the club the option to sell him this summer if they received a suitable offer. Driussi could be counted on to fill the role that Janssen failed to fill last year.
The left wing is the other attacking position Tottenham are looking to reinforce this summer. Driussi could be the answer there as well. He notched an impressive total of three goals and two assists in just five league matches playing as a left-sided forward. That’s not a huge sample size, but it is an encouraging sign as to his versatility.
The most encouraging thing about Driussi possibly ending up at Tottenham is his probable price tag. He isn’t going to break the club’s wage structure or bankrupt Daniel Levy’s transfer kitty. His arrival in North London wouldn’t prevent Pochettino from spending big in other areas.
