Tottenham will get Georges-Kevin N’Koudou another shot

With the news that Kyle Walker will be leaving Tottenham, Spurs fans are naturally wondering who else might follow the English right back out the door. Don’t expect French winger Georges-Kevin N’Koudou to go the way of Walker. He will likely get another chance to make a good impression on the Spurs faithful.

Given N’Koudou’s recent social media gaffe it was natural to wonder whether or not he had a real future at Tottenham. After all, wearing a Chelsea shirt is a great way to get yourself a ticket out of North London. Fortunately for N’Koudou, the controversy seems to have died down rather quickly.

Now, the social media buzz about N’Koudou has shifted to talk of his effective performance against Leyton Orient. Per the club’s official website he was very influential in the match. He found the back of the net for Spurs’ second goal and was a danger for his full shift on the pitch. This performance should provide him some valuable momentum heading into the teeth of preseason.

Of course, scoring against Leyton Orient in a summer friendly isn’t enough to keep him employed at Tottenham. The reality is that Spurs don’t have enough depth in their attack to sell him at the moment. Erik Lamela and Son Heung-Min are both slated to miss the beginning of the season due to injury. That leaves N’Koudou with a massive opportunity to impact the team as a substitute in their absence.

More from Tottenham Hotspur

It’s not as if fellow countryman Moussa Sissoko is likely to stick around. The club are desperate to offload his bad attitude and massive wages. If Levy were willing to take a loss on his transfer fee then he would already be gone. Negotiations with French clubs like Marseille are ongoing regarding his inevitable departure.

I, for one, would like to see N’Koudou given another chance unless the club elect to bring in several more attackers this summer. Mauricio Pochettino needs a legitimate winger in the squad and that could be even more necessary while playing at Wembley. N’Koudou’s pace could really unlock the Tottenham attack on such a large pitch.

Next: Messi and Neymar want Dele Alli

At the very least, look for N’Koudou to get another six months or so to prove his mettle. If he can’t take advantage of Lamela and Son’s injury absence, then he can always be jettisoned in January. Perhaps he’ll kick on before then and become the solution to Tottenham’s winger problem. Stranger things have happened in a player’s second season.
