Tottenham are working on a dream reunion
When Gareth Bale left Tottenham for Real Madrid many Spurs fans hoped that someday he’d make a fantastic return to White Hart Lane. The destruction of Tottenham’s historic ground has made that impossible, but the Welshman may return to Spurs in time to open their new stadium.
Reports from Spain claim that Real Madrid are determined to sell Bale this summer. Manchester United and Tottenham have emerged as the two most likely transfer destinations. The most interesting part of the report claims that Spurs have gained momentum in the race for the talented, but brittle attacker.
It’s an open secret that Jose Mourinho coveted Bale this summer and lodged a massive bid to bring him to Old Trafford. It’s thought that the Special One would still be interested in landing the winger this summer, but his squad is starting to get a bit crowded. Adding Bale to the mix could rule United out of the race for Antoine Griezmann. It’s unclear whether or not that’s an acceptable swap for Mourinho.
For Tottenham, the question isn’t really whether or not he could find a way to impact Mauricio Pochettino’s side. He clearly has the talent to walk into Spurs’ starting XI. He isn’t the same player who left the club, but he’s still a dominant offensive player when he’s fit. It’s a transfer bet Daniel Levy would like the opportunity to make.

Specifically, adding Bale just as the club move into their shiny new stadium would be tremendous for Tottenham’s business model. Levy understands the club will need to sell more season tickets, corporate partnerships and merchandise than ever before. Bringing Bale back to England would create a huge buzz at the perfect time for Tottenham’s bottom line.
The real question in all this is whether or not Real Madrid are willing to reduce their colossal asking price from last summer. If they continue to try to profit from their original purchase fee, Tottenham won’t be a real factor in the race. If, however, Florentino Perez is willing to take a moderate loss, Spurs could cobble together a competitive transfer bid.

Manchester United remain the favourites to sign Bale this summer, but they aren’t his only possible English destination. A fantastic return of the Welshman to North London can’t be ruled out.
