Davinson Sanchez-8.5

It’s hard to imagine the talented Colombian acquitting himself any better in such a crucial match. He was excellent serving as the last line of Tottenham’s defense in front of keeper Hugo Lloris.

Sometimes Sanchez’s player rating is limited by the relatively simple tasks he’s asked to handle. Put simply, playing in between Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld in a back three is a pretty simple ask of such a prodigious talent.

That wasn’t the case today though, Sanchez was asked to partner with just Alderweireld in the middle of Pochettino’s back four and he was superb. He used his speed and pace to quiet some of the best attacking talents in Europe. If Sanchez continues to develop at this pace he’s going to have quite a storied career in North London.

Toby Alderweireld-7.5

Sanchez’s partner was well above average in this match as well. Alderweireld played a little out of his comfort zone as the left-sided centre back, but still put in a very solid performance.

In particular, he helped Vertonghen stand up to numerous runs down the left flank. Zidane clearly identified that as a potential weakness for Spurs without Ben Davies on the pitch. Alderweireld’s steady play allowed Tottenham to hold Real Madrid to just one goal.
