Moussa Sissoko-7.5

This might have been the French international’s best performance in a Spurs shirt. Some might see that as damning with faint praise given the 7.5 rating, but I certainly mean it as a compliment.

Sissoko showed real signs of forming a vital partnership with Aurier for his entire shift on the pitch. He played excellent defense when called upon and made more than his fair share of runs forward. In fact, this match could have ended quite differently if Christian Eriksen had rewarded his overlapping run in the second half.

More from Tottenham Hotspur

It wasn’t a world-class outing for Sissoko, but it was another huge step in the right direction. He may ultimately justify his £30 million purchase price.

Christian Eriksen-6

Eriksen looked a step slow all match long to me. Unfortunately, his average play was highlighted as former Spurs star Luka Modric put in a stellar performance running all around him. It must be said that Eriksen didn’t look to be on the same level as Real Madrid’s star-studded midfield.

It’s very possible the classy Dane just had an off day. He clearly wanted to play well, but nothing seemed to come off for him in this match. On another day, his second half breakaway against Keylor Navas ends with a goal. Today it was tipped away for a corner. It was a match of missed opportunities for Spurs’ star midfielder.
