Left wingback-Ben Davies

The English press can prepare to recycle all of their articles about Danny Rose “fuming” at being left on the bench again. Pochettino clearly prefers to rotate his fullbacks and that means it’s Davies’ turn to start after he was rested against Dortmund.

In truth, this is an excellent match for the Welshman. Spurs figure to have plenty of the ball against West Brom and that plays right into Davies’ wheelhouse. He’ll need to make sure he gets to the byline early and often. His ability to cross the ball into the box could be the key to unlocking West Brom’s defensive starting XI.

Right wingback-Kieran Trippier

Much of what I just wrote about Davies applies to Trippier as well. This is a great matchup for him. His greatest asset for the squad is his ability to ping dangerous crosses into the penalty box. He should get ample opportunity to display his talents tomorrow.

He is, admittedly, limited on the defensive end of the pitch. Chris Brunt is not the sort of winger who is going to exploit his lack of pace. Trippier likes to park himself in the offensive end and this is precisely the sort of match where that will be allowed.
