Tottenham won’t sell Harry Kane this summer for one massive reason

Daniel Levy won’t let Kane leave Tottenham this summer

The Spanish press, once again, seem certain that Harry Kane will be leaving Tottenham for Real Madrid this summer. The truth is that Daniel Levy is too business savvy to let the English centre forward leave North London in the next transfer window. There is zero chance Spurs will let their highest-profile player leave just as they are entering their massive new stadium.

Mundo Deportivo is carrying the story that Los Blancos will purchase Kane for almost £200 million. It’s easy to see Tottenham being tempted by that sort of cash. The club have certainly fallen victim to big offers from Real Madrid in the past. Both Gareth Bale and Luka Modric have traded Tottenham for life with the Spanish giants in recent years.

Both of those stars were sold during a different time in Tottenham’s history though. Firstly, Levy has never been as attached to a manager as he is to Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine gaffer has inspired everyone at Tottenham with the belief that he can turn Spurs into a legitimate Premier League title contender. Robbing him of his goal scoring talisman before he can complete his project would irreparably damage the relationship between Levy and Pochettino.

That isn’t the biggest reason Tottenham won’t sell though. The simple reality is that Spurs need to hold on to every star player they can before they move into their new stadium next season. Next year will represent the club’s biggest chance to ascend to the same financial plane as their annual competitors for the Premier League’s top four.

More from Tottenham Hotspur

Kane is vital to the club’s ability to sell out the stadium for the entire campaign. Selling him to Madrid, no matter what he price, would be a bitter pill for Spurs fans to swallow. It would clearly have a negative impact on their ability to fill their new ground next year.

Perhaps even more importantly, losing Kane would rob Tottenham of their ability to bring in big-money sponsors for their new stadium. Levy and company are currently trying to close a number of big partnership deals. Bringing on a naming rights partner for the new stadium would be much more difficult without Kane’s star power.

Next: Grading Tottenham's January moves

Real Madrid have massive financial resources and that will cause the media to link them with every big star in football for the foreseeable future. That will logically include Harry Kane. Unfortunately for fans of Los Blancos they are going to be frustrated for the foreseeable future. Spurs need to keep Kane to ease their transition to a new stadium next year. As such, Real Madrid and any other club interested in the Tottenham talisman will be forced to wait.
