Striker-Fernando Llorente

Regular readers know what a train wreck I believe Llorente has been this season. Even so, this is the player I believe Pochettino will choose to lead his line on Wednesday. It might be the Spaniard’s last opportunity to lock down a meaningful role at the club.

More from Tottenham Hotspur

I’d much prefer Pochettino start Heung-Min Son or even Lucas Moura up top in this one. Both men have the pace to really stretch Newport’s back four. Instead, Pochettino will go with the statute. Hopefully he can affect the game with his alleged aerial prowess.

Keeper-Michel Vorm

Vorm has played a reasonable about of football lately due to Hugo Lloris’ illness, but he still deserves to start this match. The Dutch keeper has answered the bell admirably each time his name has been called.

He shouldn’t be all that troubled in this fixture. At home, Tottenham should dominate the ball from the opening whistle. Vorm needs to make sure he stays awake in case Newport hit Spurs on the break. If he’s forced to make more than one or two difficult saves, something’s gone awry for Pochettino and company.
