4. Can Gazzaniga hold up?

The question of who will play in goal should remain in play right up until the match kicks off. For the purpose of this piece, we’re going to assume that Paulo Gazzaniga gets the odd over an unavailable Michel Vorm.

More from Tottenham Hotspur

The last time we saw Gazzaniga on the pitch he was arguably the Man of the Match against Crystal Palace. Pochettino will hope he doesn’t need to stand on his head in this match.

Even so, it will be interesting to see how the former Southampton keeper reacts to the moment. There’s a real question about whether or not he’s ready to take over for Vorm as Hugo Lloris’ deputy next season. A commanding performance against Rochdale might be enough to convince Pochettino he’s ready for a promotion.

Curiously, Gazzaniga might not see enough work in this match to really stand out. If he does, it means the team ahead of him is having a nightmare. He’ll need to keep a clean sheet to make the case that he’s ready to take over Vorm’s spot in the pecking order.
