5. Alban Lafont

If the early 2000s were owned by Gianluigi Buffon, the early 2020s will be owned by Alban Lafont and Gianluigi Donnarumma. In fact, both these players are equal but the Italian ranks above only because of the fact that he plays for a reputed club.

Lafont has been a revelation for Toulouse ever since he broke into the first-team in the 2015-16 season. Since, he has made 68 appearances in 2 seasons. He is the successor to Hugo Lloris in the French national team.

But he is quite a different ‘keeper to Lloris. Lafont is more like Manuel Neuer. He loves to come off his line to clear balls and is very good with his feet. He is the definition of a sweeper goalkeeper. This is a player who cannot realise his potential at his boyhood club.

He cannot continue playing in the Ligue 1 if he wants to progress his career. He is already good enough to play for any club playing in the Premier League or the La Liga. The 19-year old Frenchman needs to secure a move to a better club if he is to succeed.
