Tottenham want to buy attacking starlet and move him to striker
Tottenham continue to search for Harry Kane’s backup
When Tottenham purchased Fernando Llorente this summer Mauricio Pochettino hoped he’d finally purchased proper cover for Harry Kane. Unfortunately, the Spaniard has utterly failed to justify Spurs’ faith in him. As such, Pochettino and company are still evaluating a number of potential solutions.
The latest potential plan for Tottenham is to purchase Sheffield United attacker David Brooks. English sources claim the Welsh attacker could be available for a transfer fee of somewhere around £10 million. That certainly falls well within Tottenham’s price range.
The idea of Spurs purchasing a Championship striker isn’t all that noteworthy. The interesting aspect of this story is that Brooks isn’t actually a striker. Currently, he’d deployed by Sheffield United as an attacking midfielder.
Evidently Tottenham’s scouts have seen something in Brooks’ game to make them believe he’s better suited to lead the line. Consider me slightly skeptical that he can successfully make the jump from the Championship to the Premier League and learn a new position all at the same time.

Brooks isn’t exactly dominating England’s second division at the moment. He’s made 19 appearances for Sheffield United on the campaign, but 14 of those have come from the substitutes’ bench. A player that isn’t regularly cracking a Championship club’s starting XI is going to struggle to make an immediate impact at Spurs.
That does not mean, however, that purchasing Brooks would be a bad idea. Outside of Reo Griffiths, the Academy doesn’t really have a ton of quality at the striker position. Given RB Leipzig’s interest in acquiring him, buying Brooks would seem to be solid protection for the club.
At a transfer price of just £10 million pounds he’s worth a flyer. Remember, he’s already a prominent name on the Wales National team stage despite his lack of real experience. He’s exactly the sort of player that could grow and learn under Pochettino’s watchful eye.

Ultimately, if Tottenham buy Brooks to serve as their second striker this summer it’s a move likely to end in disaster. If, on the other hand, they elect to purchase him to groom for a few seasons in their quality Academy setup, it could pay off handsomely in the long run. Look for Spurs to be continually linked with Brooks until the summer transfer window slams shut.
