Paris Saint-Germain have stepped up in their pursuits to improve their squad and have identified Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea as the man who can help them compete for the Champions League.
Paris-Saint Germain have targeted Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and will battle it out with European Champions Real Madrid for his signature. The French club were pinning their hopes on replacing Kevin Trapp with Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak but after the news last week that he signed a new contract to stay with Atletico, PSG are now starting to look elsewhere.
Courtois’ future at Chelsea is still up in the air as he is yet to sign a new contract and there is the potential chance that he will be heading elsewhere at the end of this season, along with teammate Eden Hazard.
PSG have been attempting to revamp their team in major fashion in the last several years, bringing in Neymar and Kylian Mbappe for massive fees while also talk about bringing in a new manager should they fail to win the return leg against Real Madrid.
PSG’s owners want to see progress with the club especially in Europe where PSG have failed to truly establish themselves as a serious contender in the Champions League. While their attack is clearly phenomenal, they still lack issues in midfield and defence, and improvements will need to be made in these areas if they actually want to compete with the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona and to actually go further than just the round of sixteen.
Securing Courtois would go a long ways toward making that progress. One only has to look at Manchester United and David De Gea to see what having a World Class goalkeeper can do for teams and this is exactly what PSG need at the moment if they truly harbour any ambitions for more success that they want. He will not go for cheap and Chelsea will obviously be very hesitant to sell him, if he is to be sold it will be for a world record fee for a goalkeeper as it will be tough for Chelsea to replace him, along with it being tough to convince Chelsea to actually let him go.

As for Courtois, it might be in his best interests to actually leave and go to Paris, they are a club that has ambitions of winning the Champions League whereas that does not appear to be the case at Chelsea, who are a mess behind the scenes and have been for the last couple of years despite their success in the league.
