Alexis Sanchez shocked the world when he chose the red side of Manchester. Is it a decision he will live to regret?

Alexis Sanchez left a bitter taste in the mouth of Arsenal fans when he left the club in the manner he did. The Chilean deserved to leave on a more positive note, given everything he did for the club, but instead he now has fans laughing at his dispossession statistics.

He and Mesut Ozil were renowned for their contract rebelliousness, as many predicted them both to leave. However, in the end it was only the Chilean who parted ways with Arsenal, but he should have never joined Manchester United.

All summer long, it was reported he would join Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, but in a last ditch decision, he joined United. Whether it was a case of his game time, or simply his ridiculous wage demands, it certainly wasn’t the style of football which persuaded him.

If Alexis really cared about the style of football which is played, then he would have either stayed at Arsenal or, even better, moved to Manchester City. This is a decision which will leave many confused for aeons.

According to Daily Mail, Alexis is a very isolated figure in the Manchester United camp. That said, it’s safe to assume his decision to join United wasn’t based on the social aspect.

Over the years, we have seen many footballers take the plunge and join the world’s biggest clubs, but failed during their time. The most recent example is Angel di Maria, who signed from Real Madrid in 2014. There was a lot of hype surrounding the transfer, and understandably so, however his time with the club was nothing short of lackluster.

Alexis Sanchez must be careful that his time there doesn’t go the same way. If his early stages are anything to go by, then it certainly doesn’t look positive. He is very much a man of his statistics, but under Jose Mourinho he can’t even rely on that. The forward has appeared in ten games for Manchester United, and only scored on one occasion, a rebounded penalty against Huddersfield.

Don’t get me wrong, Alexis Sanchez is a truly fantastic player when he wants to be. Just last season, he reached double figures for both goals and assists, becoming one of the best players in Europe. If he feels like he has something to fight for, then he can certainly come up with the goods each week.
