Raheem Sterling – 8.5
Sterling was England’s best player over the Netherlands and Italy games. His electric pace frightened the Italian defense and it looked like he was going to make something happen every time he was in possession.
It’s incredible that the Manchester City man – England’s most confident player right now – hasn’t scored an international goal since October 2015. Despite his goal drought, he will almost certainly start up top at the World Cup after these performances.
Jamie Vardy – 7
Vardy played 27 minutes against the Netherlands and he didn’t touch the ball once. He touched it a lot more against Italy – still only 18 times, though – and found the net with a clinical finish after superb work from Jesse Lingard.
There’s no doubt that the Leicester striker will be in Southgate’s squad. Will he be among the first-choice starters? Probably not, but he’ll be a great attacking option from the bench.
