5. Hugo will stand up

As Tottenham’s captain, it’s well within Hugo Lloris’ rights to call out his teammates. That’s just what the Frenchman did this week. His decision to call the entire squad’s mentality into question means he has to play a blinder against Newcastle.

More from Tottenham Hotspur

Very simply, Lloris has painted himself into a corner. It’s not a bad corner, but he hasn’t left himself with any options other than to play an excellent match. He has the ability to keep a clean sheet against the Newcastle attack almost single-handedly.

Spurs fans will hope he doesn’t need to perform any miracles. Tottenham should enjoy long spells of possession in this match. As usual, the key for their defense will be to make sure they don’t capitulate via the counter attack.

In the end, expect Lloris to stand tall and make several crucial saves to keep his side in front. If Lloris wants to make sure Tottenham qualify for next year’s Champions League, he simply has to keep the ball out of the net.
