Expect Leicester City to complete the signing of West Brom’s Jonny Evans immediately. Reviving his prestigious Premier League status.

According to BBC, Leicester City have triggered Jonny Evans’ release clause. West Brom’s rated Centre-back was courted by many premiership teams reportedly.

BBC go on to say Foxes’ manager Claude Puel ‘is a long-time admirer of the 30-year-old Northern Ireland defender.’  Also that Leicester’s chairmen have reassured the Frenchman his job is safe at the King Power.

Sadly for West Brom, they can now lose their captain for just £3.5m. Evans’ contract had a requirement incase the Baggies suffered relegation. They ended bottom-of-the-league despite new manager Darren Moore’s excellent resistance.

Harry Maguire needs a great partner at the back. Wes Morgan is now too slow and perhaps ageing for his role. A respected captain and former champion nonetheless.

Lacking defensively, of mind and seemingly experience on multiple occasions; Morgan is a liability now. These mishaps lead to many conceded Premier League goals.

Evans could be the missing link which helps Leicester solidify European qualification through the league. Calmness and assurance in possession, selflessness and a tough-challenge are his repertoire.

There is no doubt he is also resilient in the air when challenging defensively or offensively. Consequently scoring some majestic headers. 15 career goals is a definite threat for a 6-foot-two player.

Unexpected switch

Unfortunately for Manchester City, it seems the Foxes will get their man. Pep Guardiola was heavily interested in Evans during the January transfer window.

The Citizens consequently signed Aymeric Laporte instead after new year. Arsenal are also admirers of the Northern Ireland international.

The disinterest is possibly due to the 30-year-old’s behaviour in Barcelona. While on a team-building trip to Spain in February, the Northern Irishman was involved in a bizarre taxi stealing debacle.

Along with three teammates, he undertook an ill-advised trip for fast-food after midnight. In addition to breaking club curfew. However, playing 70 times for his country is a sign of character. Hopefully for us Foxes, it was misjudgment.

Although, adding Evans to the roster is great for Leicester, they have other priorities. Keeping Jamie Vardy will be harder than ever this summer. Vardy is 32-years-old soon. He will want a bumper new contract after the World Cup. Unless a last chance at a larger club occurs.

Riyad Mahrez is more likely to leave the Midlands. Another Man City target, a fee of £75m was speculated. Nothing below £60m is allegedly acceptable for owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha’s star.
