James Maddison is on the verge of joining Leicester City. Norwich’s starlet had a fantastic season in the Championship and is now set for the big time.
Sky Sports report James Maddison has rejected Southampton’s advances in favour of a move to Leicester City. He is said to be undergoing a medical Monday while finalising personal terms at the King Power. The deal is around £22m.
An England Under-21 international, Maddison caught the eyes of Premier League talent spotters and recruitment particularly last campaign. By scoring and assisting 22 goals in 44 matches in the Championship in 2017/18.
Norwich are selling the attacking midfielder as their parachute payments have ceased. Liverpool and Manchester City were apparently interested as well. Yet the Midlands’ side hope to add him to the solid signings of Ricardo Pereira and Jonny Evans.
A native Midlander with experience, at a tender age, in the Scottish Premier League. This gives him durability in some people’s eyes. That is, in the sense of being able to settle and flourish in a new environment. After the Canaries loaned him to Aberdeen, a debut was eagerly awaited by the Carrow Road faithful.
Supposedly, the former Coventry City man prefers the Foxes as the club is near to his family. That is according to Mirror Sport:
"“The Foxes are in talks with Norwich attacking ace Maddison over a £25m move, and the 21-year-old is due to undergo a medical today. Maddison also has interest from Premier League rivals Southampton but the ex-Coventry starlet is thought to prefer a move nearer his close-knit family.” (Via: Daily Mirror)"
The 21-year-old is from Coventry. Moving to a nearby City gives him a traveling distance of only 41 miles home. Riyad Mahrez could be heading north to Manchester City. Hence the search for a fresh midfield or wing maestro. Claude Puel’s outfit need a new magician. I tip Maddison to oblige them, as well as entertaining Premier League fans worldwide.
In addition to Norwich losing their midfield dynamo, a domino effect takes another lauded Championship No.10 to the top flight. Jack Grealish will almost certainly leave cash-strapped Aston Villa possibly for Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs also monitored Maddison.
A highly rated playmaker, Maddison is sure to light up the premiership. His style is fast, mentally and physically. Slotted through balls, effortlessly flying past an opponent, finishing miraculously and beautifully from any angle. This young man does it all.
England’s second tier does obviously not provide the challenge an elite league will. Although, the sheer consistency of the Canary is quite astonishing. WhoScored.com list his main attributes as set-pieces, layoffs, passing, possession, dribbling and crossing.
Norwich’s talented player has a video vault like Matt Le Tissier. Find out, with the YouTube video above, why so many Premier League teams are monitoring him!
