Tottenham aren’t having any luck in the transfer window so far.

Tottenham aren’t the most notorious club for landing huge names. Usually, they adopt a method of signing players cheaply, and turning them into big names. Dele Alli is just one example of this, as well as Gareth Bale.

This can lead to both frustration and delight. The frustration usually comes within the transfer window, and the delight comes when the player turns out to be amazing.

This time though, they adopted a slightly different transfer approach. They decided to chase Jordi Alba, a player who is proven among the world at FC Barcelona. However, according to Goal, Alba is happy at Barcelona and does not wish to relocate.

Positives to take for Tottenham?

While this will come as a blow to Tottenham fans, it can be taken as a positive to see the board finally chasing big names.

More from Tottenham Hotspur

The transfer pursuit for Jack Grealish is set to continue, with big names such as Liverpool joining the fray. They also missed out on James Maddison, who has been confirmed as a Leicester player.

Tottenham is an exciting place to be right now. There are a number of players who are on the cusp of stardom, and with a world class manager like Mauricio Pochettino, it’s certainly tempting.

The board needs to start coughing up fees if they are serious about competing with the best. The game is very much money-orientated nowadays, so in order to keep up with the best, you must make sacrifices.

Jordi Alba was perhaps looked at as a Danny Rose replacement. Although, recent news surrounding the Englishman is positive.

Tottenham’s play heavily orientates around the full backs. Especially when Kyle Walker was at the club, the full backs would usually bomb forward and help with attacking play.

This is key to the way in which Pochettino sets up, so don’t be surprised to see another full back linked with the Tottenham job in the coming weeks.

Of course, transfer news has been stale in the last week. This is because the World Cup is in full swing, and players’ attention is focused on winning the competition for their national side.

However, with teams like Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United all doing well to strengthen in dire positions, it’s important the rest of the top six keep up with them.
