Tottenham cannot afford to let Hugo Lloris move to Real Madrid
By Quinn Allen
The 31-year old just won a World Cup with France after a solid tournament in net for Les Bleus.
It’s been reported that Real Madrid has their sights set on signing Hugo Lloris from Tottenham for a reported 60 million euros, according to The Sun.
Madrid could very well have to raise the transfer fee if they really want Lloris. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has a history of being a tough negotiator.
This makes it likely that he could demand something in the ballpark of up to 67 million euros; The world record that Liverpool signed Roma stopper Allison Becker last week.

Even if Madrid does offer Spurs this type of coin, I really don’t think Tottenham should give up Lloris. He is absolutely too valuable right now.
In his prime
Lloris had an outstanding World Cup with France, despite a small blunder in the final against Croatia. Other than that one mistake, Lloris played some quality football in net. Winning a World Cup, the pinnacle of any footballer’s career, is going to give him a boatload of confidence heading into this season.
The Spurs only gave up 36 goals in 38 premier league fixtures last season, meaning Lloris only surrendered about one goal a game.
Only two teams surrendered fewer goals, Manchester City and Manchester United, who finished 1-2 above Tottenham in the Premier League table.
He is the captain of the Spurs and a very crucial part of their success. They really don’t have any quality back-ups to Lloris in net either, so giving him up would be a big mistake.
The Spurs signed Lloris from Lyon in 2012, and his value has really skyrocketed since coming to White Hart Lane.
He still has four years left on his current deal with the Spurs, who finished third in the premier league last season.
Lloris first gained interest from Madrid when he performed well against Los Blancos last year in Champions League when the Spurs tied Madrid at the Bernabeu then beat them at Wembley.
Keylor Navas’s future in Madrid remains uncertain so they are in desperate search of a replacement for the Costa Rican.
The Spurs did so well last season and are just a step away from being a top two team in the Premier League. Despite not making any crucial moves this summer, They have a solid squad and Lloris is a huge part of it.
Keeping Lloris could be smart for the time being
If he has another great season and Tottenham reaches heights they never have, then selling him next year could be an option.
A lot of people would say this would be a perfect time to sell Lloris given his age, but look at someone like Gianluigi Buffon. The Italian is still a world-class keeper at age 40. Lloris isn’t going to change a lot in one year. He’s still going to be a great keeper 12 months from now.
If Madrid comes up with 66 or 67 million for Lloris, I understand it will be very difficult for Tottenham to say no to that type of money. It will just depend on what direction they want to head in, but I do think keeping Lloris for one more year at the very least would be a smart decision.
Madrid is very close to finalizing a deal with Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea, who is also a world-class keeper. If they can’t get Lloris, Courtois is certainly a great option instead for Madrid.
