Andre Schurrle, who was part of Germany’s World Cup squad in 2014 and a fan favorite for Chelsea a couple years ago is back in England once again, this time with Premier League newcomers Fulham.

Andre Schurrle was a great player for Chelsea and was loved by the Stamford Bridge faithful from 2013-15.

The 27-year old scored 11 times in 44 appearances (20 starts) for the Blues across two seasons before heading off to the Bundesliga, first with Wolfsburg for one year, then Dortmund for the last two.

Fulham agreed on a two year deal for Schurrle last week from Dortmund. The German will make his way back to England and will add some firepower on the attack for the EPL newcomers.

What Schurrle brings to Fulham

More from Premier League

Schurrle has always been an exciting player on the attack but only made 11 starts last season with Dortmund, netting three times. He’s struggled to really find himself since going to the Bundesliga.

His last very impressive season was back in England at Stamford Bridge, so hopefully, Schurrle can find his old form since he’s back in England this season.

He’s expected to play on the right flank for Slavisa Jokanovic’s side in a 4-3-3 formation and should be an exciting player on the flank for Fulham. He is versatile too, and can also play on the left flank as well.

Schurrle is a serious goal-scoring threat and has great speed down the flanks and has great vision, showing the ability in the past to whip crosses into the box and pick out teammates.

Schurrle doesn’t have any outstanding strikers up front, so we could see Schurrle play up top from time to time, a position he did play at times last season with Borussia Dortmund.

They did just add Aleksandar Mitrovic from Newcastle though, who is a top goal-scorer, so that could be a big target for Schurrle in the box when he is playing on the flanks.

The German will definitely boost the assist numbers of the Fulham midfield, especially newcomer Jean-Michael Seri, who comes to Fulham from Ligue 1 side Nice. Seri had 15 assists last season for the French club.

Stefan Johansen is a mainstay in the midfield for Lilywhites as their main playmaker last year in the Championship, tallying nine assists last term and scoring eight times.

Schurrle/Sessignon combo

The combination of Andre Schurrle and Ryan Sessegnon on the flanks could be a deadly one for the Whites this season. Sessegnon was Fulham’s leading scorer last year, netting 15 times and also collecting eight assists mainly playing on the left flank.

With the addition of Mitrovic up front, Fulham could create some havoc on the attack this season as they make their return to the Premier League for the first time since the 2013-14 season.

Schurrle will certainly see a healthy amount of consistent playing time with Fulham, something he hasn’t seen for a while. Even with Chelsea a few years back, he came on mostly off the bench.

I believe if the 27-year old gets the opportunity to be in the starting XI on a weekly basis, it will really pay off for him and Fulham. He could really break out and find his old ways of being a superior goal-scorer.
