Tottenham failed to land Jack Grealish this summer, but they may have an easier ride next time out.

Jack Grealish will spend at least another season in the EFL Championship, as he is set to be offered a new contract with Aston Villa. However, there will be a clause in his contract which is a good thing for Tottenham fans.

According to the Daily Star, part of his contract will allow him to leave the club, should they fail to land promotion to the Premier League this summer.

This will stop Daniel Levy from messing things up.

Daniel Levy’s negotiating approach can either be a blessing or a curse. In recent times, it’s done nothing but bring negativity to the Spurs camp, and it needs to stop.

He is very difficult to negotiate with, often resorting to impossible tactics. This is why Aston Villa held such a firm stance on Jack Grealish.

Surely, if Grealish were to sign the new contract, and Aston Villa failed to win promotion to the Premier League, there is no way Levy and co. will be able to mess this transfer up.

I don’t know, maybe it’s just wishful thinking, but you’d have to be pretty bad at your job in order to not trigger this clause.

Tottenham fans will now wish for Aston Villa to stay put, and not just because of John Terry this time round.

Will Tottenham still be interested?

That said, a lot can happen in a season. Bare in mind, that there is still a transfer window taking place in January which will give Tottenham and their English counterparts the chance to strengthen. If they can do so adequately, they may no longer need Grealish to sign for them.

Besides, Grealish could continue his linear career trajectory. He hasn’t had the easiest of rides at reaching his potential, consecutively playing mediocre football with the Villa. Signing for Tottenham would have allowed him the elevation he needed to reach stardom, which we have seen work for Harry Kane and Dele Alli.

Grealish should focus on his season with Aston Villa. He doesn’t seem like that kind of guy, but throwing a sulk isn’t going to help anyone’s cause. He mustn’t let this clause get to him in any way, as he can’t afford to play the saboteur card.
