Mauricio Pochettino will take his non shuffled Spurs side to the St. James’ Park. While several players returned late due to World Cup commitments, we have a look at the potential lineup that the Argentine boss will field.

Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur visit England’s north to contest their opening Premier League fixture. The St. James’ Park will be the hosting ground as Spurs will be hoping to claim all three points against Newcastle United.

The Magpies have only lost one of their last eight at home. Interestingly, Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal lost in Newcastle last season during Newcastle’s home run.

Mauricio Pochettino has been pathetic this summer in the transfer window and signed not a single player. We take a look at the potential lineup that the former Southampton boss will field on Saturday afternoon.

Defence

More from Tottenham Hotspur

Hugo Lloris returned to training only on Monday after his exploits with France in Russia. The World Cup winner is still expected to step between the sticks for Spurs and bear the armband. Serge Aurier did not feature in the World Cup and played pre-season with Spurs.

Thus, he is likely to occupy the right back’s spot. Ben Davies was phenomenal at left back last season and might be unleashed by Pochettino in the other fullback role on Saturday. Davinson Sanchez and Jan Vertonghen were both at the World Cup and reached the knockouts. The Belgian finished third and was in Russia till the last round, however, he is likely to partner the Colombian at central defence.

Midfield

Spurs are very likely to go with a five man midfield. Moussa Sissoko and Mousa Dembele are the favourites to occupy the two spots at defensive midfield. Playing ahead of the two men will very likely be Hueng Ming-Son, Christian Eriksen and former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Lucas Moura. Dele Alli is reportedly going to be a substitute due to lack of match fitness.

Attack

Mauricio Pochettino’s usual line-ups feature just one striker. In the 4-5-1 formation, one of Harry Kane and Fernando Llorente will take up the role. Fernando Llorente has been with Spurs for the entire summer while Harry Kane joined just on Monday after a lengthy World Cup. However, the England captain is the person to put your money on.
