Real Madrid see Tottenham star as replacement for Luka Modric
By Kian Long
It doesn’t look likely that Luka Modric will leave, but if he does, then Real Madrid have a replacement lined up.
Luka Modric has had a stellar time at Real Madrid since joining from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012. The Croatian midfielder has won three consecutive Champions League titles, along with a La Liga and another Champions League back in 2014, to name just a few.
His unique style has made him a real fan favorite at the Bernabeu, just like he was at White Hart Lane. But there are fears over his future, hence the dramatic resort from Madrid. According to The Sun, Los Blancos will pursue Christian Eriksen should Modric leave.
Don’t get your hopes up.

I think this goes without saying doesn’t it, Madrid fans? We all know how difficult Daniel Levy is to negotiate with – well, it’s virtually impossible. It was the same story with Harry Kane and of course Mauricio Pochettino.
He seems to have a vendetta against Real Madrid. It’s not difficult to see why, given Madrid’s usage of former Tottenham stars Gareth Bale and, of course, Luka Modric.
If Madrid do sell Modric, then I would assume it will be for the big bucks. This could sway the Tottenham officials, but they should still be reluctant to sell…
Tottenham can’t afford to lose Christian Eriksen.
After Tottenham’s disappointment in the transfer window, there would be nothing worse than losing a star player. Their midfield is dry as it is, so losing the electricity which Eriksen offers would be a huge blow.
Obviously, the contract situation and his morale is on Tottenham’s side. Eriksen is under contract until the summer of 2020, and he doesn’t seem to be unsettled at Spurs.
What Tottenham fans should be worrying about, is Eriksen hearing about the interest and beginning to push for a move away. If this does become the case, squad morale could be in jeopardy, as we’ve seen in the Premier League recently.
I’m sure Arsenal fans would have hoped to sell Alexis Sanchez sooner, the same with Liverpool and Philippe Coutinho. Both of these examples had happy endings, but the upset those situations caused could have been easily avoided.
Anyway, I know I’m drifting off topic. As things stand, there’s no reason for Tottenham fans to be worried. It would be a huge surprise if this news was to materialize, but there is still the off chance.
Do you think there’s any truth behind this rumor?
