Should Mauricio Pochettino’s comments worry the Spurs faithful?

Spurs had a worrying transfer window, but it could get even worse.

When it comes to the transfer market, Daniel Levy is a notorious villain. However, Spurs have always loved him, until recently. That’s because he was always willing to sign players who went on to turn into real stars, such as Dele Alli or Harry Kane. But it was all different this time round, as the North London club signed nobody.

Although that’s not as big of a deal as it could have been, given the strength in Spurs’ squad, it’s still worrying. And that’s only because of the way this transfer window is laid out. England shut their window early, meaning they could still be robbed of players afterwards without being able to bring in new players.

More from Tottenham Hotspur

This is particularly worrying for Spurs, given the fact that Toby Alderweireld, Danny Rose and even Christian Eriksen are linked with moves to other clubs.

According to Sky Sports, Mauricio Pochettino has reminded us all that he is willing to let player’s go who don’t tie into the mentality of the club or the trajectory in which it’s heading.

"“Maybe (players will be sold), yes, we are going to see if some players believe that they can achieve their goals in another club. Maybe they are going to move. Different individual things can happen in the next few weeks.” – Mauricio Pochettino (via Sky Sports)"

The Argentine then goes on to discuss how he is happy to find the best fit for a player who is unhappy at the club, as squad morale is important to him for the coming season.

While this can be perceived as good and bad news, it’s important not to read too much into Pochettino’s comments. After all, this is the same guy who tried to justify diving in football, let’s not forget.

The reaction from the Spurs camp is bound to be negative, but the European window closes in just two weeks time. If Spurs do lose players, they won’t have the ability to bring in a replacement until January, so it’s important that Daniel Levy keeps his firm stance. Well, we all know that’s going to happen anyway.

Bayern Munich are interested in Toby Alderweireld and have joined that transfer saga. Whereas non-concrete reports suggest Real Madrid will pursue Christian Eriksen should they lose Luka Modric. It’s confusing, but welcome to the world of the transfer window.
