Tottenham Hotspur will be the hosts against Fulham. Spurs come into this one on the back of a 2-1 victory and will be keen on delivering the goods in front of their fans. Here’s a look at their likely XI…

Tottenham Hotspur play the season’s first London Derby. The Wembley Stadium will play host to the match which will among a few of Spurs’ final outings at the iconic arena. Later, they will head to the New White Hart Lane which is still under construction. Fulham, the Premier League’s new comers and one of the busiest transfer window prospects will visit the Lilywhites for this important fixture.

Tottenham come into the on the back of a hard fought win against Newcastle United. Dele Alli and Jan Vertonghen were the goal getters at the St. James’ Park in a 2-1 win. Tottenham and Pochettino will be hoping for three more points in their season’s first home game. We take a look at the potential line-up that their Argentinian manager is likely to field.

Defence

More from Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs conceded a goal last weekend thanks to a stunning counter attack by Rafa Benitez’s side. However, despite the missed clean sheet, Hugo Lloris is the favourite to take his spot between the sticks. Kieran Trippier being given a rest last time out meant that Serge Aurier got the nod at right back. However, a like to like swap is expected to take place with the English defender starting this time.

Ben Davies started the last game and put in a decent performance. Poor fitness on Danny Rose’s part could signal another start for the Welshman. His ability to make himself big on the opponent’s right side stands out apart from the attacking qualities. Jan Vertonghen scored a goal and made a few good tackles versus Newcastle last weekend. He seems to be indispensable against a built Fulham attack.

Mauricio Pochettino’s preferred choice at the second centre back spot up for grabs is expected to be Davinson Sanchez. The Colombian is fully fit having returned from World Cup duty earlier than most teammates who went until the final week in Russia.

Midfield

Moussa Dembele’s late return from international duty saw Eric Dier take his stand beside Moussa Sissoko just ahead of the four man defence. However, Spurs’ underrated Belgian star is expected to be given a run right from the start this weekend. Moussa Sissoko has a brilliant physique which will help Spurs bypass a strong Fulham attack coming towards them. The two Moussas- Dembele and Sissoko- are the favourites to get the nods at defensive midfield.

Christian Eriksen is the silent killer at Spurs. He is responsible for most set piece duties under Pochettino’s setup and is a huge requisite. Dele Alli’s goals can be extremely helpful in the month of August which is very likely to see Harry Kane go barren. The England attacking midfielder is an imminent striker on Saturday. Heung Min-Son’s record at home is fantastic and the South Korean will be a probable starter versus the Craven Cottage outfit.

Attack

Tottenham Hotspur are versatile in the attacking department. All of Alli, Eriksen and Son are capable of playing a supporting role through the wings in a 4-3-3 formation. Spurs also go with the 4-2-3-1 formation against dangerous opposition who can counter at will. The latter will be a much formidable choice against The Cottagers. With that said, Harry Kane is the obvious choice to lead the line. Despite his poor record in the month of August, nobody knows when he can step up.

However, in a month in which the England captain is expected to go on a dry run, it would be great to see Fernando Llorente get the nod. The former Swansea City man might repay the faith to Pochettino against the Premier League freshers.
