Left Back: Alex Sandro

Alex Sandro will make this position easy to predict for years to come. Juve’s first choice left back didn’t do anything spectacular against Lazio last weekend, but was reliable as always. Sandro contributed 2 interceptions and 2 clearances, but wasn’t able to factor into the attack.

When the Champions League rolls around in September it will be reasonable to expect Leonardo Spinazzola to get some time at this position. For now it’s Alex Sandro’s spot to lose and we can expect to see him get another start against Parma, especially with an international break coming up.

Right Back: Joao Cancelo

Joao Cancelo bounced back from his awful debut performance as impressively as anybody could’ve hoped. Against Lazio, Cancelo was an absolute menace on the right side. He made 3 tackles and an interception, but it was in Lazio’s half that he really shone. Cancelo was dangerous throughout the match, providing 8 crosses and 2 key passes. One of those crosses cut through Lazio’s defense and opened up Mario Mandzukic for an easy finish.

After disappointing in his first Juve appearance it seemed as though Cancelo could be on his way to surrendering his starting spot to Mattia De Sciglio. However, Cancelo’s performance against Lazio should cement his place in the starting lineup. Cancelo gave Juve fans a glimpse of his potential against Lazio and will hopefully put on a similar performance against Parma. Expect to see him get the starting nod again this Saturday.
