Davinson Sanchez-7

Some Spurs fans were worried about the young Colombian headed into this fixture, but he performed admirably well considering his lack of regular football this season. Sanchez had one moment of insanity where he conceded a dangerous free kick after giving the ball away, but his performance was much better on the whole.

He continues to be the one Tottenham defender who has the ability to command the ball in the air. Sanchez does need to assert himself more on set pieces, but that should progress nicely with more match time. He is the most athletic central defender at Pochettino’s disposal.

On the flip side, he’s got to get better with the ball at his feet. The opposition is starting to set their game plan to force him to make decisions via the pass. He still looks very uncomfortable making anything other than an ordinary pass forward. If he wants to fight his way back into Pochettino’s starting XI, he needs to be a little better at everything.

Jan Vertonghen-6

This was not the Belgian veteran’s best game. Vertonghen didn’t have any massive errors, but he didn’t do enough to stop Inter from creating quality chances.

It’s questionable as to whether or not he had a chance to block Icardi’s second half wonderstrike. We’re inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt and say it was moving much too quickly for him to react.

Still, he can play much better than he did today. Adding more physicality to his game could really help Vertonghen aid his teammates when defending set pieces. It may be too late to teach Vertonghen new tricks, but it’s worth a try.
