Left Back- Thomas Vermaelen- 5/10

The former Arsenal defender started a game for Barcelona after a long while. Vermaelen was tasked with filling Jordi Alba’s left back spot but didn’t pass his test with good marks. The Belgian was caught napping many times and could have tracked back to stop El Zhar’s headed attempt at goal. After a bad display, it does not look like the 32 year old has made a strong case for a start in the future.

Centre Back- Samuel Umtiti- 6.5/10

Umtiti filled in for the suspended Clement Lenglet against Leganes. With Gerard Pique putting in a horrific performance, it was Umtiti who tried to keep the defence organised while his central defensive partner trying to make amends for his errors upfront. The France international distributed the ball around with great calmness and composure in spite of his team being a goal down. He had a decent performance and it would be wrong to blame him for Barca’s lapses.

Centre Back- Gerard Pique- 4.5/10

The Barcelona centre back delivered a despicable performance for his team. Pique has consistently been among the world’s best defenders in the last few years but has failed to justify his tag in the last two matches. It was Pique’s error that led to Oscar’s winning goal while the Spaniard could have tried to head away the cross which eventually found El Zhar’s head before.

Right Back- Sergi Roberto- 5.5/10

It is not often that we see Sergi Roberto in a poor showing, but it really was a display below his standards versus El Lega. The Spain international was deployed at right back but failed to do the defensive contributions. It would have been much better to start Nelson Semedo and leave Roberto on the bench due to the minutes he has accumulated in the season so far.
