Arsenal have given the critics many reason to laugh in the past, so they must avoid selling their best midfielder to a Premier League rival.

I mean, there’s literally no reason to. Aaron Ramsey looks set to be leaving, but there’s going to be plenty of clubs looking to sign him across Europe. Most recently, it was Real Madrid who shown interest in the Welshman. And having spoke about his desire to play in Spain in the past, I would assume the Arsenal man will jump at the chance.

However, obviously the English media have thrown their own spin into the mix. Evening Standard have reported that Liverpool and Manchester United will seek an opportunity to sign him on the low in January.

Firstly, no.

More from Arsenal FC

Aaron Ramsey and Alexis Sanchez weren’t the best of pals at Arsenal, I think it’s fair to say. The Welshman will be looking at his former teammate’s situation with guilty pleasure. I mean, everybody who loves Arsenal is doing the same, let’s admit.

And secondly, why would he even want to join Manchester United? Even when Arsenal first signed him as a teenager, when United were in their glory days, he rejected the Red Devils. So now, when United are in their worst possible state of recent history, I don’t think the odds have increased.

Do Liverpool have a case? Meh. I think when Jurgen Klopp is your manager, you’re always going to have a case. Obviously, playing abroad and joining his countryman Gareth Bale is always going to be the first choice, but there’s no denying that working with Klopp is attractive for any footballer.

Fabinho is struggling to settle in during his first season too, so there is room for him in the starting eleven. Signing Ramsey would force Keita to play a little deeper, because I don’t think there’s any denying who brings more going forward. Hint – it’s Ramsey.

Even if Arsenal do run the risk of losing Ramsey for free, it’s important not to sell to a rival. Losing Ramsey for free to a club abroad is a much better outcome to picking up buttons for him and strengthening a rival in the mean time. Besides, I’m sure Madrid or another wealthy club would be convinced at a cut-price.

What do you make of the situation? It doesn’t look likely that Ramsey will sign a contract at Arsenal, so do you think the club should sell him in January?
