LB: Alex Sandro 8/10

Alex Sandro was phenomenal against Manchester United. He completely took Marcus Rashford out of this match. He made 2 tackles,2 interceptions, and 3 clearances as part of a performance where he absolutely shut down one England’s brightest young prospects. Sandro was defensively flawless in this match and hopefully his performance reminds of why they shouldn’t be looking at other options at left back.

CB: Giorgio Chiellini 8/10

I highlighted Giorgio Chiellini vs Romelu Lukaku as one of my key matchups for this match and Chiellini won it dominantly. Chiellini completely neutralized Lukaku as any kind of a threat, limiting him to 1 shot. Chiellini’s 3 tackles, 1 interception, and 7 clearances helped to shut down what little attacking threat United was able to present in this match. Juve missed their captain on Saturday and his performance against United showed exactly why.

CB: Leonardo Bonucci 6/10

This wasn’t the bounce back game that Leonardo Bonucci. Bonucci needed to impress in this match after giving up the tying goal to Genoa in a match where he was misguidedly given the captain’s armband. He didn’t impress at all in this one. He didn’t contribute much defensively, only making one tackle and 3 clearance. He also had more moments where he looked shaky defensively. Bonucci’s recent performances have repeatedly given fans reason to wish he was never brought back.

RB: Joao Cancelo 7.5/10

This wasn’t the kind of electrifying performance we’ve become used to from Cancelo, but he did play well in the highest profile match of his young career. Thanks to Cancelo, Anthony Martial was unable to impact the match from the left wing. His defensive effort kept Juventus in control of the right flank throughout the match and gave Juan Cuadrado the freedom to create on the right side. Cancelo once again proved in this match that he can put in good performances on the biggest stages for Juve.
