By Quinn Allen
After a stellar season for Atlanta United in the MLS where netted 13 times and had 11 assists in 34 appearances, the Paraguayan international in garnering interest from several Premier League clubs. Rafa Benitez and the Magpies are the most recent one.
They might be facing some competition to sign Miguel Almiron in the January transfer window, but according to the Sun UK, Newcastle is very interested in bringing the MLS standout to St. James Park in the new year. West Ham and Everton have are also keen on the 24-year old attacking midfielder, who is valued at about 15 million euros by his MLS club.
Benitez believes that Almiron could fit in very nicely in his squad, who currently sit in 14th place and have won their last two fixtures against Bournemouth and Watford. The hope is that owner Mike Ashley will fork out some cash for the club to be able to spend some money to bolster their club in January, with Almiron being the latest target for Benitez.

Almiron has nothing else to prove in the US after two outstanding seasons where he scored 21 times and collected 28 assists in just 62 appearances. He’s one of the sole reasons Atlanta has been such an offensive side for the last two MLS campaigns.
How he could fit in
Almiron can play centrally up top or as an attacking midfielder on the flanks, making him quite versatile. Depending on Atlanta’s formation, he spent time at both positions this past year. As you can see by his statistics, the 24-year old is very talented at scoring goals and assisting them.
Almiron isn’t the biggest guy, but his speed and pace on the counter-attack were arguably one of the best in the MLS. He is a very creative player who is a superior finisher and an outstanding playmaker, which could really help Newcastle. In their 4-4-1-1 formation under Benitez, he could probably fit in as the attacking midfielder right behind the striker. In this case, it’s been Salomon Rondon up top.
The Magpies have lacked the ability to score a lot of goals this season and that’s a lot to do with a lack of creativity in the final third. Almiron could be exactly what they need to strengthen their attack. He is a bright player and can impact the game in many ways which could be a major benefit for Newcastle if they can string together a deal with the Paraguayan standout.
Who will win the Miguel Almiron sweepstakes? West Ham, Everton, Or Newcastle? It will be interesting to see where he ends up because it’s definitely clear that Miguel Almiron is a hot commodity and will help anyone of these Premier League clubs in January.
