Real Madrid’s player ratings vs Eibar: A catastrophe in the Basque County
Left Back- Marcelo- 6.5/10
Marcelo made his return from injury and started at Eibar. He was on a goalscoring run of three consecutive matches and getting onto the scoresheet at the Ipurua would have been helpful. Nonetheless, his performance was just about decent on Saturday.
His attitude was extremely positive and optimistic. Marcelo was ever-present when going forward and put in some good passes and crosses. It was a pity that it led to nothing. Defensively, he did not have a really good match.
Centre Back- Sergio Ramos- 5/10
Sergio Ramos looked a little rusty and there is no justification to it given that he was released by Spain’s national team one week before this match. The Real Madrid and Spain captain was slightly jaded and off colour right from the first whistle. His frailties did come forward and Ramos had a tough time in front of Sergi Enrich.
Centre Back- Raphael Varane- 6/10
Raphael Varane was another of the few players that Santiago Solari welcomed back from injury. The France international did travel with his national team for its matches but looked just about average in the Eibar match. Varane was not called too much into test and dealt decently with Kike Garcia. If there was a Real Madrid player alongside Marcelo who did not deserve to go home with a defeat, it was Varane.
Right Back- Alvaro Odriozola- 5.5/10
Alvaro Odriozola struggled in dealing with Marc Cucurella’s attacking threat. The Barcelona player on loan at Eibar was playing in the left winger’s position and put his speed to good use. Eibar’s attacker was certainly faster than the former Real Sociedad man and did not allow him to act defensively. Alvaro Odriozola’s attacking was nothing great either because he did not have many opportunities to go forward in the first place.
