CM: Eric Dier – 6

In the first half, Eric was a constant outlet whenever Spurs was in possession and put himself about well. The man who caused the melee at The Emirates was again in the thick of things here, blocking off numerous red shirts at a time for corners.

He dropped to center back with five minutes to go and will be disappointed to have lost Charlie Austin for the goal.

CM: Harry Winks – 6

Winks had a decent game. He was economical in possession and kept Tottenham ticking over until the hard work was done.

However, the manager wouldn’t have been happy with how dominant Southampton were in the latter stages and the two central midfielders must take a hefty chunk of the responsibility. Winks was a little sloppy during that period and a terrible clearance in the 68th minute almost led to Southampton pulling one back.

AM: Christian Eriksen – 7.5

Eriksen popped up every now and then to sprinkle a little magic dust on the game. After a short corner in the ninth minute, he fizzed one across the Saint’s box leaving Harry Kane with a tap in.

He dropped deep a lot and orchestrated a couple of good openings for the Spurs’ attack.

AM: Heung-min Son – 8

Son played with enough energy to light up the whole of London. He tormented the Southampton defense all night and beelined straight for its goal almost anytime he got the ball.

The smiling Korean struck the post with a fabulous effort after just three minutes and got his deserved goal in the second half.

He seems to have overcome the mental and physical fatigue that followed his hectic summer just in time to acquire it again during the manic Christmas period.

AM: Lucas Moura – 7

It was an industrious display by Moura who was eager to impress. After hammering a loose ball into the ground and past Alex McCarthy, the Brazilian’s delight at getting back on the score sheet was palpable.

He was replaced by Moussa Sissoko with a quarter of an hour left and the look of bliss was still plastered across his face.
