2. Lucas Torreira scores an incredible volley

Lucas Torreira scored the winning goal, and what a goal it was. Following some hesitation in the box, Aubameyang played in a perfect cross for Lucas Torreira to adjust to. He composed him and fired an acrobatic volley into the net.

The spectacularity of it will get all the plaudits but Torreira needed to keep himself composed. Not only because of the stage of the match or the importance of his finish. But because he could have just as easily fired over the bar from attempting such a volley. Still, his confidence from the season prevailed and he picked up all three points for his side.

Torreira was targetted a lot by the Huddersfield players, being on the receiving end of a number of fouls. He didn’t let it get to him and he remained the honest player is. At times, I was worried that he would become injured but thankfully he pulled through. I said heading into this match that he warranted a rest but I’m so glad he didn’t take it.

It was a very defensive midfield in which Emery adopted. The Spaniard went with a midfield three of Torreira, Granit Xhaka and Matteo Guendouzi. However, they worked together perfectly. While Torreira will receive all the plaudits, the players around him help to make things tick as well.

That said, Torreira wasn’t as defensive as he usually is. While he still did cut out the odd counter-attack, special credits should also be given to his Swiss partner for filling the defensive role…
