Tottenham player ratings vs Leicester City: Dele dazzles
In the end it was a pretty routine 2-0 win for Tottenham at the King Power Stadium. Here are how the players rated.
This fixture has proved an absolute goal fest over the last couple of years, but with Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane warming the bench and Jamie Vardy out injured, it was unlikely the abacus would be needed again.
The game looked destined to reach the halfway point goalless as neither team had managed a shot on target; but Heung-Min Son had other ideas and curled a left footed strike around Kasper Schmeichel a minute into injury time. The Korean then set up Dele Alli, who had tormented The Foxes back line all evening, to put the game to bed just before the hour mark.
Overall, it was a thoroughly satisfying night for the visitors who clearly had an eye on Tuesday night’s must-win showdown at Camp Nou.
Here are how the Spurs players rated.
GK: Hugo Lloris – 7
The Frenchman was efficient in fleeting involvement last night which is exactly what you would want from a keeper.
Hugo was off his line like a streak of lightning early on to clean up after Serge Aurier played Kelechi Iheanacho onside. Apart from that, a couple of routine saves and a decent punch gave him the clean sheet that he deserved mid-week.
He is in great form to go to Barcelona and make amends for a couple of earlier Champions League gaffes.
RB: Serge Aurier – 5
With Kieran Trippier out injured it was another chance for Serge to live up to the bombastic rhetoric he arrived with.
But the Ivorian was poor at both ends. Nearly everything he tried failed to come off and Ben Chilwell and James Maddison won most of their battles on his side. He did assist Son for the first but it was more a result of the latter’s ingenuity than the full back’s pass.
Serge came off with an injury and will likely miss Tuesday night’s game.
LB: Ben Davies – 7
It was a good battling performance by the Welshman. He dealt with Demarai Gray well who marauded down his flank all evening and was backed up by the buccaneering Ricardo Pereira.
Davies began the move for Tottenham’s second goal and showed why he is first choice for the left back position.
