The Spurs striker has been on fire lately, netting in three of his last four appearances in Premier League play.

Son Heung-min is making his presence felt with Tottenham since returning from the Asian games where he was on international duty with South Korea, bringing home a gold medal for his country. He found some trouble breaking into the starting eleven when he initially returned to the Spurs, but now he’s seen himself in the starting lineup through five of the last six fixtures across all competitions. The speedy striker has scored three times in his last four Premier League appearances.

Son showed on Saturday that Mauricio Pochettino can most certainly rely on him to fill in for Harry Kane up front when their star striker does need rest. Son was Tottenham’s main man up front in a 2-0 win over Leicester, scoring the first goal with a beautiful curling strike with his weaker foot and also set up their second tally with a precise cross right onto the head of Deli Alli for an easy finish. The goal by Son was an absolute firecracker, especially considering he did it with his left foot. There isn’t a lot of players in the world that can take a quality strike like that with their secondary foot.

More from Tottenham Hotspur

Son had an impressive 81 percent passing accuracy against Leicester and managed to whip across eight crosses in the match, per whoscored.com.

Let’s dig into what has made him so fantastic in the last handful of matches for the Spurs.

A deeper look into his impressive form

Son took some time to get back to the form that we’ve seen from the South Korean star in the past, but now he is arguably the most important attacker for Pochettino’s side besides Harry Kane. His performance against Leicester was probably his best since returning back to the starting XI, but every match he’s played in the last month Son has been creating tons of chances. His pace is breathtaking whether he’s playing on the flank or in the middle of the pitch. Kane isn’t a speedster up front, but he does know how to finish. It’s important for Tottenham to have a player like Son who has quickness on the attack where Kane lacks, along with players like Lucas Moura who is also fast on his feet in the final third.

In Tottenham’s dramatic victory over Chelsea just a couple weeks back, Son took on two different Chelsea defenders, making them look absolutely foolish on his way to a clinical finish against the Blues. His speed and skill were on full display, protecting the ball extremely well as he flew by Jorginho on the flank, then cut in towards the net, beating David Luiz and firing home for a stunner, sending Wembley into madness.

The Spurs barely slipped into the round of 16 in Champions League play on Tuesday, tying Barcelona 1-1, advancing over Inter Milan based on the number of goals they scored. Although Son didn’t score in this match, his presence was once again felt at Camp Nou. He had several chances to tally a goal, taking three shots on target and completing 29 passes throughout the 71 minutes he was on the pitch. Thanks to some world-class goalkeeping from Jasper Cillessen, he failed to net but he was creating lots of opportunities up front for Tottenham. He made numerous quality runs behind the Barcelona back-line as well and used his speed effectively on the flanks to get crosses into the box.

Joyful player to watch

Son is an extremely talented player, but all the skill in the world means nothing if you don’t have the right attitude. He loves to play football, evident by how energetic he is on the pitch. When he scores goals, it’s easy to see how ecstatic he is to be playing this game for a living.

Son may have had a lot of chances to score in the last few games, especially on Tuesday against Barca, but he never stops looking for ways to capitalize. The 26-year old will continue to run at opposing defenses and look for an opening to find the net or find a teammate in a better position.

His relentless style of play is what makes him such a prized possession for Mauricio Pochettino. The striker is an extremely important part of this Tottenham squad and without his recent form, they wouldn’t be sitting in third place in the Premier League.
