9. Mesut Ozil (2013 – present)

This one is going to be controversial, especially when it comes to traditionalists. The media have quite cleverly portrayed Mesut Ozil to be a rotten egg, but it couldn’t be further from the truth. Ozil is one of the best players in the world, I know it, you know it and the media knows it. Let’s stop painting an incorrect picture.

Arsene Wenger shocked the world when he signed Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid. It was towards the end of a memorable deadline day for the fans. Nobody saw it coming, but when it happened, the Gunners received a real sense of hope.

It took Arsenal some time to make Ozil tick, but when the cogs started to turn, boy did they turn. You must remember that the club was in a bad state at this time, still undergoing their trophy drought back then. But now, Arsenal fans don’t know of anyone called ‘trophy drought’ as they’ve won plenty. Ozil being key to many of them.

Within his first few years of being an Arsenal player, Mesut Ozil lifted the World Cup trophy with the Germany national team. Obviously, his time there soon turned bitter, but he was once again a key player to lifting this World Cup.

When it comes to play-makers, there aren’t much better in the world than Mesut Ozil. Since he arrived in England, all the creative players have used Ozil as an example. He adopts a different role now, but when it comes to attacking play, Ozil is always key to Arsenal’s movements.
