1. Frank Lampard

The heaviest linked manager to take over is Derby County manager, and former Chelsea legend, Frank Lampard.

Unsurprisingly, he seems to be the odds-on favourite to take over and it’s not hard to see why. As mentioned, he’s revered at Chelsea and the job he’s done at Derby County has been impressive. He also is unlikely to mind the restrictions he’ll face should he take over at Chelsea. Let’s not forget, Chelsea is still dealing with a potential transfer ban which means they won’t be able to register players.

The inability to sign players is something that would drive off a lot of managers but having a limited squad is what Lampard faced at Derby.

Harry Redknapp is someone who believes Lampard will wind up at Chelsea.

According to the BBC, Redknapp said, “If Chelsea comes calling, it’s a difficult one for him to turn down. In my personal opinion, he’ll be the manager of Chelsea.”

The BBC also report that while many believe Lampard will turn up at Stamford Bridge, Derby County say that no one from Chelsea has contacted them regarding their manager.

For their part, The Guardian report that Lampard would be interested in joining Chelsea should they come calling. However, they would have to pay the remaining part of his contract.

Looks like the only thing standing in their way of making this a reality is Chelsea making the first approach. Once they do that, the dominoes should fall into place.
