If Chelsea wanted to attract a big name, for better or for worse depending on who you ask, there is no bigger name manager out there at the moment than Massimiliano Allegri.

He’s coming off a rather disappointing season in which Juventus failed to win the Champions League and the Copa Italia. Despite those failings, Allegri was able to do what Antonio Conte could not and that make Juventus a legitimate contender in the Champions League.

He’s a manager who is not married to a style and will change things up when needed. He knows how to manage a dressing room full of big personalities and egos. That may not be an issue considering there is no superstar at the moment with Eden Hazard leaving for Real Madrid.

A reason why this won’t happen is that Allegri decided that he was going to take a year-long break from managing to recharge his battery so to speak. In one year’s time, the landscape may be different and bigger clubs may be looking for managers and have him in mind.

Also, according to the Express, ESPN’s Paolo Bandini reports that he has turned down the Chelsea job because he would not have control over their transfer policy.

“My understanding was he wasn’t so keen to go to a club where he wouldn’t have control over transfers, where he wouldn’t have the opportunity to go after targets he wanted,” Bandini said.

Hard to have that control with Chelsea potentially being unable to sign anyone. Had the transfer ban not been in place, perhaps he’d have been more keen to take over. But at this time, Chelsea themselves may be hesitant in hiring another Italian manager after what happened with Conte and Sarri.
