Mattia Perin

Through no fault of his own Mattia Perin’s first season at Juventus didn’t go exactly as planned. He was brought in to be Juve’s eventual replacement for Gianluigi Buffon, but Wojciech Szczesny made Perin’s presence pretty unnecessary. Now there doesn’t seem to be a clear path to Perin getting regular playing time at Juventus, which is a problem for a promising young keeper. With Szczesny locked in as Juve’s #1 the only option here is for Juve to let Perin move on to a team where he can get regular playing time.

Thanks to the unbelievable bargain they got for Perin last season it is likely that Juve could still turn a little bit of a profit on Perin if they let him go now. There is also the possibility that he could be used to open a team up to sell a player Juventus is interested in. In particular, Juve could send Perin to Roma as part of a deal that gets Juve Kostas Manolas.

This would be a huge win-win for both parties as Robin Olsen was a big disappointment last season, Antonio Mirante is old, and Daniel Fuzato isn’t ready to take over the starting role. For Juve it would help them to finally pry one of the league’s best center backs away from Roma to reinforce a defense that underperformed last season.

Juan Cuadrado

Once upon a time Juan Cuadrado was an important of a Juventus squad that was able to contend with the top teams in Europe. Unfortunately, those days are long gone. Now he mostly just acts as a utility player on the right side who is a clear downgrade from the starters in front of him. He was disappointing as both a wing and right back last season and was just taking up space that Juventus could have used to develop young players at the end of last season.

There will likely be some teams who would be interested in Cuadrado as he still offers impressive pace and could still be an option for mid-table teams on the right side of their attack or midfield. This mid-table teams would also be more likely to tolerate the poor choices he makes on breakaways and some of the awful shots he takes.

Juventus needs to get rid of dead weight this summer and that’s exactly what Cuadrado is on this team. They should accept whatever offer they get for him just to clear the space and have a little bit of extra budget room to get the players they want this summer.
