After a successful loan spell with the Toffees this past season, Andre Gomes has made the permanent switch over to Goodison Park from Barcelona.

According to talksport, Everton has completed a five-year deal worth 22 million for the midfielder. Gomes made 29 appearances last season for the Toffees, scoring once and adding one assist. He proved to be a mainstay in the midfield at Goodison, starting 24 of the 27 Premier League matches he appeared in.

Everton boss Marco Silva’s main goal for this offseason was to permanently sign Gomes, who proved that he was an instrumental part of Everton since his arrival from Camp Nou. The 25-year old first joined the Toffees on a one-year loan on the last day of the transfer window in August of 2018. After rehabbing a hamstring injury, the Portuguese midfielder made his first appearance for the club in October of 2018 in a win over Crystal Palace.

Here’s what Gomes had to say about his signing:

"“I’m really happy to sign the contract with Everton – it wasn’t hard to decide, it was an easy decision and I’m very happy to have made it”, he told Evertontv.“I know the Club made a massive effort to sign me and I’m very happy and thankful to them. I said during the year that I felt part of a family and that is the most important thing to me.”“Last year was a really good experience for me. I just wanted to feel part of something special and I found it here. It was good for me in that moment and right now, after signing for Everton, it’s even better.”“I think the ambition here is not only for me, I think it’s for all the players, the fans and the Club. We are all excited for that.”-Gomes on his permanent deal with Everton"

Although Gomes scored just once for Everton this year, it was a beautiful long-range strike that ended up being the runner-up for the goal of the season within the club.

At 6 foot 2, Gomes has proven to be a physical presence in the midfield and the ultimate link between the back-line and strikers. With a full season ahead of him and a secure deal for five years with Everton, hopefully, we can see more goals from Gomes in the 2019/20 campaign.
