Everton defensive midfielder Idrissa Gueye looks set to be making the switch to Paris Saint-Germain this summer…
Paris Saint-Germain have been in need of a defensive midfielder for a long time now and with the arrival of Leandro Paredes and Ander Herrera, they seem to have checked the box. But as per reports, it doesn’t stop there. The Parisians have been pursuing Everton’s Idrissa Gueye for quite some time now and were even close to bringing him to the club in January. The Senegalese now, however, once again seems to be close to securing a move to the French Capital.

Being a part of the Senegal team that reached the finals of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Gueye had reportedly told his entourage that he wanted to concentrate on the cup first rather than taking a decision regarding his future. Senegal lost to Algeria in the finals and Gueye was one of the best players for Senegal throughout the tournament. The player is expected to be on vacation for a few weeks and will spend the coming few days in his hometown, Dakar.
Gueye pushed for a move to PSG back in January, but things didn’t fall into place then. As reported by L’Équipe, when asked about the failed move to PSG, Gueye had the following to say :
"“It is a dream that sadly did not come true. … But I was honoured that PSG were interested in me. Now, I know that I am of interest to these types of clubs, that I am ready to go to the final level to join a top European club. I am going to work even more so that they come back to me. Maybe it is not finished with PSG…”"
Paris Saint-Germain have continued to pursue Gueye this summer and Le Parisien now report that PSG and Everton are coming close to agreeing a deal for the Senegalese international worth €30 million with additional bonuses. PSG sporting director Leonardo seems keen to bring Gueye to the club and was optimistic when questioned about the clubs stance on Gueye.
Signing Idrissa Gueye would mean that Paris Saint-Germain has pretty much solved their issues in midfield by making smart transfers this season. Gueye has been exceptional for Everton making 359 interceptions last season and played a major role in helping the Toffees finish in the top 10 of the Premier League table. The player has a contract with Everton until June 2022 but a move to PSG seems likely to happen this summer.
Will Gueye’s finally get his dream move this summer ?
